The Distance Between Us is the annual photo zine that is a collaboration of George Washington University photography students, professors and alumni. Volume I contains photographs made during the 2020-2021 academic year. Instead of our usual classes on campus in Washington, D.C., we experienced two full semesters of virtual learning due to the coronavirus pandemic. Despite being so far apart from each other, attending classes in isolation brought unexpected opportunities. Our GWU photography community was able to bring what we saw wherever we were to class. From the 2020 presidential election, to several holiday celebrations and to hometown landscapes, we were able to visually share stories in a way we wouldn’t have otherwise.
